Hello, Folks,

I am not a telephone professional, but I have a major problem with my
cell phone: the number is 269-692-3692.

I am learning that when businesses with switchboards call me on this
number, all they receive is a busy signal. They are never able to
reach me, and end up calling me on a personal cell phone, which makes
me a tad uncomfortable.

My phone is a Samsung A640, and the carrier is Sprint.

This ONLY happens from LOCAL businesses with more than one telephone
line.

It DOES NOT happen from single-line land-line phones, other cell
phones, LONG-DISTANCE businesses outside of the 269 (SW Michigan) area
code, or local businesses with just one telephone line.

Any ideas from this group of talented professionals?

Many Thanks for your help and consideration.

Sincerely,

Matthew McCormick

If it were me I'd first check with of those problem "business'" who's
switchboard is willing to make a couple of test calls for you.

Then I would go to the largest Sprint service center in your area and have
them explain in person why it happens in front of their eyes. They can call
for 2nd or higher tech support and usually can get a problem like this fixed
in a few minutes. It sounds like the local switch has your number
configured incorrectly.

Try businesses with different carriers. Sounds like a carrier problem.

How long has this number been ported to your cell phone? I'd probably
start with Ameritech and ask them to check translations on the
porting. Since Otsego only has 2 main exchanges owned by Ameritech,
it's possible they missed something on the switch, or the local
business has alternative service too.

And a regular customer, or complainer, is going to reach someone
who knows about translation tables, how, exactly?

Best alternative: Make _one_ call to the original poster's
cellco, and _one_ call to the local ILEC serving those businesses [a].

If, or rather when, that doesn't work (give them, say, 3 business
days), then kick it to... the Public Service Commission
for that state.

This is the history of the number:

Dec 1999: Assigned to me on a land-line home phone in Otsego, MI with
SBC Michigan.

Around 2004 or 2005: Ported over to T-Mobile for a cell phone (I
stopped Land-Line service).

2006: Ported over to Sprint on a cell phone. (My current phone)

Thanks!

I would ask the problem people who they use for telephone service. see if
you can call them. it is probaly problem with 1 telco not communicating
with sprint. I think number of lines probaly has no bearing on if they can
reach you or not. (unless pri/t1 vs pots lines comes into play in your
area)

I guess the bottom line is you as a consumer should not have to be a telecom
expert to get his/her cell phone service to work proper. although if you
can do a little bit of investigating it will help sprint solve the problem.
I kind of think sprint is not at fault but it is probaly the other carriers
not having something set up correct. It could be 1 carrier still thinks you
are with sbc or t-mobile?

then again as mentioned earlier in thread you might have to resort to Public
Service Commission.

good luck
